A small submarine that takes folks to the wreckage of the Titanic has gone lacking.

The U.S. Coast Guard in Boston stated Monday {that a} search and rescue operation is underway within the space across the well-known sunken ship within the North Atlantic Ocean.  

The lacking submarine is owned and operated by OceanGate Expeditions, which confirmed in an announcement that there have been folks on board the lacking vessel. It’s unclear how many individuals had been aboard the submarine when it vanished.

“We are exploring and mobilising all options to bring the crew back safely,” the corporate stated Monday. “Our entire focus is on the crewmembers in the submersible and their families.”

OceanGate affords eight-day expeditions to the stays of the Titanic, which sits about 370 miles off the coast of Newfoundland, Canada, and roughly 2.5 miles beneath the floor. The firm stated that an expedition was at present in progress on Friday.
