An enormous wildfire within the south of France is beneath management after it pressured 1000's of residents and holidaymakers to flee their houses and campsites.

The hearth broke out on Monday afternoon between Saint-Andre, close to the Spanish border, and the seaside resort of Argeles-sur-Mer on the Mediterranean coast.

The space is claimed to be common with British holidaymakers.

More than 3,000 individuals needed to be evacuated from the realm as 650 firefighters tackled the blaze, French information service BFM TV reviews.

Several firefighters have been injured, together with one severely, in response to France's inside minister Gerald Darmanin.

The severely injured firefighter reportedly harm himself after falling out of a truck and onto his again.

Samuel Moli, the mayor of Saint-Andre, described the state of affairs as "catastrophic" on Monday night.

He stated on the France Bleu Roussillon radio community: "We are facing a fire like we have never seen.

"Our city is tough hit, and there's a lot of injury."

Laetitia Richard, who needed to flee the Chenes Rouges campsite in Argeles sur Mer, stated it was ravaged by flames.

She advised BFM TV: "We were coming back from a walk and we saw the smoke. We said to ourselves, 'it's not possible!'

"Last yr already, we have been in Gironde, however 30km from the hearth. This time it was very shut."

Stephanie Bodinier, 49, who is in Argeles-sur-Mer with her husband and daughter, said: "We have been within the pool and we noticed smoke and ashes. When I noticed the planes, we took our issues."
