The head of Sudan's military has advised Sky News his troops will "definitely" defeat an attacking paramilitary group, however he's open to negotiations.

At least 97 folks have been killed and 365 injured over the weekend in clashes between the military and Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

Tensions have escalated since an influence pact between the 2 sides crumbled and the ensuing violence has seen Sudan's civilians caught within the crossfire.

Speaking to Sky News, military chief and de facto chief Abdel Fattah al Burhan mentioned he was open to mediation as "every war ends at the negotiation table even if the opponent is defeated".

He added: "Even if there is surrender, there is still negotiation."

Asked if his troops will defeat the RSF, al Burhan mentioned: "Definitely. God willing."
