Eleven individuals have been arrested in local weather protests which focused two oil websites in Scotland.

Police attended demonstrations on Wednesday by activists from the This is Rigged group on the Ineos refinery in Grangemouth, Fife, and on the Nustar Clydebank oil terminal in West Dunbartonshire.

The demonstrators claimed to have stopped oil leaving the websites after sitting on pipes and on high of a tanker.

The marketing campaign group posted on Twitter: "Grangemouth supplies 90% of Scotland's oil. We have stopped oil leaving this site, as well as Nustar Terminal in Clydebank. We have no plans to stop.

"Groups of persons are at the moment occupying pipework and a gasoline silo and blockading terminal gates, whereas one other group has immobilised a carpark stuffed with tankers on the Grangemouth facility.

"No fuel can leave the sites while they are occupied.

"The motion is the primary in a sustained sequence of actions, wherein the group has vowed to close down the Scottish oil business."

This is Rigged urged the Scottish authorities to deliver a "just transition" for oil and fuel staff "instead of assisting billionaires like Ineos owner Jim Ratcliffe".

A spokesperson for Ineos earlier mentioned the Grangemouth terminal was "temporarily closed to traffic" over security issues.

"We are aware of a number of protesters at the Grangemouth Road Terminal, and we have mobilised our incident management team," the spokesperson mentioned.

"We are continuing to monitor the protest activity at the terminal, and we are liaising with Police Scotland, prioritising the safety of all those involved.

"Our manufacturing operations stay unaffected and, to prioritise the protection of all concerned, we now have quickly closed the terminal to all site visitors.

"We recognise the important part we are playing in addressing the climate challenges that lie ahead," they added.

"Our operations, products and people are key to delivering the solutions that will drive the move towards net-zero emissions and the circular economy.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Police Scotland have made plenty of arrests following protests on the Ineos web site in Grangemouth in the present day.

"Eleven people have been arrested and officers remain in attendance."

Nustar was additionally contacted for remark.
