Delta flight declares emergency as nostril touchdown gear fails on method to Charlotte airport

A Delta flight was compelled to do an emergency touchdown after the nostril touchdown gear failed to come back down.

The aircraft – travelling from Atlanta to Charlotte – circled because it tried to repair the issue, however passengers have been finally instructed to get within the brace place.

In audio from air visitors management, the pilot warns: “We have a nose wheel update indication, we’re gonna have to go ahead and declare and emergency.”

Pictures present the aircraft with its nostril touching the runway and the emergency slide deployed however Delta stated no accidents have been reported.

The runway was closed for about eight hours whereas the jet was eliminated and the tarmac inspected.

One lady, who stated her son was on the flight, tweeted an image of the aircraft and praised the pilot for a “phenomenal job”.

Delta stated in an announcement that touchdown gear failures have been a “rare occurrence” and that its crews “train extensively to safely manage through many scenarios”.

It apologised for the inconvenience and added: “Nothing is more important than the safety of our customers and people.”
