Workers at a crisp manufacturing facility in Australia have complained {that a} sizzling and spicy seasoning is affecting their well being.
A union is claiming the “Flamin’ Hot” seasoning, used for Doritos and Cheetos merchandise, has prompted a variety of opposed results together with sneezing, coughing, eye and pores and skin irritation, and respiratory difficulties.
The United Workers Union (UWU) has lodged a grievance with the office well being and security regulator in South Australia after interviewing workers on the Smith’s Snackfood Company manufacturing facility in Adelaide.
The UWU stated the workers raised “significant safety concerns” relating to the “improper handling of strongly irritating substances”.
The union stated it spoke to 13 staff throughout one shift final week and 11 reported unfavourable results from the seasoning.
In its grievance to SafeWork SA, the UWU stated: “After interviewing 13 workers from the afternoon shift, 11 reported various effects, including sneezing, coughing, eye and skin irritation, runny nose, sore throat, chest discomfort, and difficulty breathing.”
The UWU stated the seasoning machine is used for the new product “every couple of weeks”, with the ingredient “dispersing across the production area”.
