Yevgeny Prigozhin, the chief of the Wagner Group mercenary military that launched a failed coup in June in opposition to Russia’s army institution, was on the passenger checklist of a non-public jet that crashed Wednesday on a flight from Moscow to St. Petersburg, Russia, authorities mentioned.
The Embraer Legacy plane crashed close to Kuzhenkino, a village 215 miles northwest of Moscow, in line with Russia’s state-owned RIA Novosti information company.
“There were 10 people aboard, including three crew members. According to preliminary information, all on board were killed,” RIA Novosti reported, citing Russia’s Ministry of Emergency Situations.
The nation’s Federal Air Transport Agency mentioned it was investigating the reason for the crash. It famous that Mr. Prigozhin’s title appeared on the flight’s passenger manifest, in line with RIA Novosti.
The different names on the passenger checklist weren’t launched.
Mr. Prigozhin, a former confidant of President Vladimir Putin, fell out of favor after overtly criticizing the Russian Defense Ministry and launching a rebel on June 23. The rebellion was referred to as off the following day, after which Mr. Prigozhin agreed to maneuver to Belarus. Charges had been dropped in opposition to him, and the mutineers had been advised they might signal contracts with the Russian Defense Ministry or transfer to Belarus.
